ABOUT US

The Fund The Gap campaign is an initiative of the National Growth Areas Alliance - a group of 30 councils representing one in every four Australians.

The NGAA was created with the specific aim of bringing the issue of a lack of infrastructure funding into the public spotlight in the lead-up to this year's Federal election.

NGAA delegates will be actively working within their local communities to ensure that everyone - from junior sports groups to senior citizens - have access to the services and amenities they deserve.

The NGAA does not see the campaign as a party political exercise. NGAA councils and their residents are actively lobbying Government and Opposition members as well as local election candidates.

Why are we speaking out now?

Towards the end of 2006, NGAA members identified lack of funding for infrastructure as the critical issue for their municipalities.

An independent study completed in early 2007 confirmed that without urgent and substantial funding, communities and more importantly, future generations will suffer.

$11.7 billion needs to be spent in the next 15 years. NGAA is seeking $3.1 billion from the Federal Government. That's $206 million a year or $39 per NGAA resident per year.

Action needs to be taken and the NGAA was formed to harness the support of the more than five million Australians living in NGAA councils.

NGAA and their residents are combining to make this issue a significant factor in the upcoming election.
